ECOLOGY OF VISION LABORATORY (ECOVIS)

Our lab is at the Universidad de Valparaíso, and is part of the Dept of Physiology and Centro de Neurociencias  de Valparaíso (CNV).

Research Interest

Sensory systems must ultimately be understood at all the biological levels of analysis, from molecular events in cells to the behavioral repertoires of animals seen

in the ecological conditions in which their kind evolved. Our currents lab project are focus in sensory ecology, especially in the visual system, from single photoreceptor recording, electroretinogram (ERG), slice of retina, patch-clamp (whole cell and perforate), and measure of the reflectance spectra, from animals and their microhabitat, that are likely to be used as signals in sexual selection, recognition of cospecifics, camouflage.

Research Field

At present we are working in the visual system of several species: Zebrafish, Marine Fishes, Anfibian, Rodents, Lizard

  • Retina Slices (DIC Microscopy)
  • Electroretinography (ERG)
  • Suction Electrodes
  • Flower and Animal coloration with reflectances measurements
